The Traxxas Jato 3.3 is perhaps the quintessential street bashing nitro RC. It’s extremely fast, agile, and has plenty of ground clearance to handle rougher street terrain and modest jumps.
The Jato 3.3 stock tires are the Traxxas Anacondas, which are pretty solid for street bashing. They can handle rough street terrain, don’t balloon very much, and are extremely durable. The only con is that they don’t have the greatest traction, which led me to search for other tire options for the Jato.
After scouring the internet for street bashing tire options for the Jato 3.3, I found the following.
Note: I left out slicks because they aren’t ideal for rough street terrain. I left out foams because they aren’t durable enough for the average basher.
Note 2: width and outer diameter of tires are listed in paranthesis for each option. The width of the tire will affect traction and the outer diameter will affect gearing.
2.8 options, 12mm hex
Sticking with the stock wheel size and tires that have a similar low profile and therefore overall diameter is probably the way to go. The Pro-Line Street Fighter LPs are the premium choice, but you can’t go wrong with the stock Anacondas. You will need a 12mm hex bearing conversion to run any of these options unless otherwise noted.
- Traxxas Anacondas 2.8 (2”x4.1”)
- Stock tires, no conversion needed, make sure to get a set of rears and a set of fronts
- Traxxas Gravix 2.8 (2.3″x4.5″)
- These are bigger than the stock Anaconda tires, consider gearing down to compensate
- Pro-Line Street Fighter 2.8 LP (2.05”x4.07”)
- Also available in 17mm hex
- Pro-Line Trencher 2.8 LP (2.21″x4.47″)
- These are all-terrain tires, but should perform decent on pavement and last a long time
- These are bigger than the stock Anaconda tires, consider gearing down to compensate
- Jconcepts Switchback (2”x4.125”)
- No conversion needed, includes adapter to hold bearings for front wheels
- JConcepts G-Locs (2×3.8”)
- If buying pre-mounted, get the “front” version for all four wheels (it more closely matches the offset of the stock Jato)
- UpGrade RC Low-Pro BELTED Street Radials 2.8″ (2.37″x4.56″)
- These are bigger than the stock Anaconda tires, consider gearing down to compensate
2.2 options, 12mm hex
Neither of these tire options were made for the street, but should do okay on asphalt. I would only go with one of these options if you want to run a slightly smaller and lighter wheel/tire combo than stock. A smaller, lighter wheel/tire combo should make the Jato a little more nimble and it will improve acceleration while decreasing overall top speed.
- Jconcepts Ellipses (2″x3.8″)
- These were made for high traction dirt tracks, but saw one report that they work well on road
- You will need 12mm hex bearing conversion for fronts
- The blue compound (soft) is the firmest option
- Pro-Line 1/16 Trencher M2 (1.73”x3.62”)
- All-terrain tire made for the mini e-revo, not low-profile so might not perform as well
17mm hex options
You will need the Hot Racing 17mm hex hubadapter kit for these options. The 17mm hub adapters are made of aluminum and will add rotational mass to your set up, but they allow you to run belted tires or pretty much any 1/8 scale buggy tire.
- Pro-Line Street Fighter LP (2.05”x4.07”), also available in 12mm hex
- Dboots Hoons (1.69″x3.94″), belted
- GRP T03 Revo (1.65″x3.9″), belted
- Amazon Specials (1.69″x3.98″)
